Structure

subject + verb + object pronoun

After the verb, use object forms: me, you, him, her, it, us, them.

preposition + object pronoun

After a preposition, use object forms, not subject forms.

When to use

After verbs

Use an object pronoun for the receiver of the action: Maria calls him. I know them. Lisa helps us.

After prepositions

Use an object pronoun after to, for, with, about, and from: for her, with us, about them.

Common misconceptions

If the meaning is clear, subject pronouns can stay the same after verbs and prepositions.

English changes the form in object position: me, him, her, us, them. Only you and it stay the same.

Object pronouns are only for after verbs.

Use object pronouns after prepositions too: to him, with her, for us.
